A NEW coffee table book by poet Kirstie Pelling is inspiring summer visitors to consider journeying without a car during their stay in the Lakes.

Kirstie travelled sustainably around the Lake District in the autumn and winter, writing about the people and places that inspired her on her journeys. Now her ‘poetry with a purpose’ has been published in a large format coffee table book with support from the GoLakes Travel Programme. ‘

See More,’ is being distributed for free to selected attractions, transport hubs and luxury hotels to encourage people to think more carefully about how they move around while on holiday.

Copies are also available for sale.

“It is a sideways look at life in the Lakes from the top seat of the bus, the saddle of a bicycle and the open deck of a Lakeland boat,” says Kirstie, who designed the book with photographer Stuart Wickes.

“It’s a creative journey in which you get to meet the Old Lady who made the Lakes, drive an Electric Superhero and join the search for Bownessie on foot.”

There are also poems about three Windermere Lake Cruises skippers.

“It was a pleasure to share their thoughts and opinions through my poetry and capture the spirit of their lives on the lake through this creative process," added Kirstie.

Meanwhile the duo are celebrating success in another creative field after their Family Adventure Project YouTube channel won a national award earlier this week at a conference run by BritMums - Britain’s largest collective of parent bloggers and social influencers.
