AN OUTDOOR performance of Lewis Carroll's classic Alice story looks set to bring a touch of Wonderland to Ulverston.

The town's Lightburn Park is the venue for drama group Ulverston Outsiders' summer production, In the Park with Alice, on Saturday, July 18.

The park will be transformed by director Emma Bonney, designer Helen Lawler and the 20-strong cast, and the audience is invited to bring along picnic hampers and blankets for a Mad Hatter's Tea Party during the interval.

Balloons, face painting, croquet, magic tricks, Alice-themed crafts and a maddest hat competition will add to the atmosphere, and many of Ulverston's primary schools are creating artwork for the event.

For Sammie Dent, 19, Alice is her biggest role yet with Ulverston Outsiders. "I think I suit playing Alice as she is just a child and I'm still really young at heart and very adventurous like her!" she said.

"I also think it's amazing that I have been given the chance to be her, because everyone has heard of Alice in Wonderland and probably read it as a child, and then I get to bring it to life for them. It's such an amazing opportunity."

Presented with the Friends of Lightburn Park, admission to the show is free and gates open from 1.30pm.
