"FOUR-legged agility and two-legged tenacity" were among the highlights of Saturday's Ingleton Gala, say organisers.

People came from far and wide to take part in the famous Ingleborough Mountain Race and marvel at the main ring display by Pendle Dog Agility, as well as guess the weight of the cake, feed the cuddly Greenside alpacas and watch the traditional gala parade.

This year's gala queen Shauna Danskin and her retinue waved to onlookers from their beautifully decorated trailer as they led the parade from Ingleton Primary School through the village in bright sunshine. Shauna's attendants were Finn Durkin, Ella Burrow, Annabel Bibby, Gemma Tyrie, Flo Nicholls, Thea Downing and Ella Bibby.

Almost 200 runners from as far afield as East Fife and Vancouver in Canada entered the senior mountain race, with winner Steve Hebbethwaite, of Keswick, crossing the finish line in 47:12. Steve notched up the fastest time in recent years but was four minutes short of the long-standing record.

Hannah Horsburgh, also of Keswick, was the first senior lady home, breaking the women's senior record by 10 seconds to finish in 52:49. New record times were also set for over-60s men, over-60s ladies and over-70s men.

Dave McGonnigal, race organiser, explained that a good tailwind on the ascent probably helped conditions and times.

Ingleton's much-loved yearly gala raises funds for local causes and is run by a sub-committee of Ingleton Rural Community Association. Organisers thanked sponsors, contributors and volunteers.
