Summer is here and there are lots of fun activities and events for all ages on offer across the Lake District. You can swing through the trees at Treetop Treks or take a ride on a traditional steam train then hop aboard a boat on the lake. Fun with the National Trust

There’s always something new to discover at one of the many National Trust properties, which range from exploring historic castles and gardens to taking a cruise on the Steam Yacht Gondola.

Wray Castle is a popular attraction where families can play at being medieval knights in the grounds that stretch down to the shores of Windermere. There's plenty to do outdoors, from rope swinging to den building and following the garden trails. With special events, dressing up, arts and crafts, and building castles inside this impressive mock-Gothic castle, it's ideal for a family spending a rainy day in the Lakes.

World of Beatrix Potter

Visit the popular and long-established Bowness attraction where Beatrix Potter’s storybook characters come to life before your eyes. The displays recently underwent a major make-over, so if it’s been a while since your last visit, there’s lots that’s new to see and do. There are activities for children throughout the year and every Bank Holiday Monday (10am-4pm) Peter Rabbit makes an appearance to give his fans a big hug! Outside, the Peter Rabbit garden tells the story of Beatrix Potter the naturalist and is designed to capture the very essence of her world, from the cos lettuces that Benjamin Bunny nibbled on to the gooseberry bush where Peter got caught in a net as he tried to escape Mr McGregor. Lakes Aquarium

At the Lakes Aquarium visitors can see all the different creatures that live in our seas, lakes and rivers. Meet the otters and watch them being fed and watch fish and birds duck and dive above you in the special viewing tunnel. Kendal Leisure Centre

Cumberland Pencil Museum

Situated at Keswick, the Cumberland Pencil Museum is a colourful place that is home to a giant, an escape artist’s pencil, art adventures and the world’s longest colour pencil!

Holker Hall & Gardens

Holker Hall is the home of the Cavendish family who welcome visitors of all ages to one of the best-loved stately homes in Britain. Old Hall Farm

At Old Hall Farm visitors can find out about 19th century farming methods that were used to grow crops and harvest them against a backdrop of stunning Lakeland scenery. When the weather’s good the farm’s Shire Horses can be seen ploughing and working in the fields. Sing-along-a FROZEN!

Lancaster Grand theatre stage a whole variety of productions for adults and families. One not to miss is Sing-along-a Disney’s FROZEN! A full screening of the film with lyrics on screen to help young fans sing along with Anna and Elsa during the film. Introduced by a live host who will show you how to use your free prop bag, warm up your singing voices and teach you some hand actions and heckles before you sit back and "Let it Go". Wordsworth Trust

Dove Cottage at Grasmere was the home of William Wordsworth and visitors can explore this little cottage and learn about the great poet. In the adjacent Wordsworth Museum there are exhibitions and displays relating to Wordsworth and his circle of Romantic poets. There are activities especially aimed at children including a special summer trail. Follow the trial around the Wordsworth, War & Waterloo exhibition in the museum and find all the heroes and villains from the Napoleonic wars, before heading to the shop to collect your prize. On July 21, there will be a Napoleonic hat making session in The Foyle Room opposite Dove Cottage (2.00 - 4.00pm). Make a fantastic hat like the one Napoleon wore - Go wild with plumes or explore a military style of your own design.
