CROWDS are gathering at one of south Cumbria's first agricultural shows of the season.

Wellie-clad families have already turned out to North Lonsdale Show for the third year at its newer location at Urswick, near Ulverston.

Speaking to the Gazette, show secretary Margaret Coward said: "There's a good crowd arriving already although it's too early to guess numbers.

"Entries are well up in cattle, sheep and horses this year but poultry is down as we get people from Lancashire but they've got bird flu there.

"For the fist time this year we've got a food marquee where we're having chef demos throughout the day.

"And we've got a stunt display by Jez Avery."

She added the organisers were disappointed that it had rained last night as it made the field muddy, causing delays earlier today in getting people into the ground.

But with the sun shining, North Lonsdale Show could be in for a bumper crowd.
