A 13-YEAR-old Kendal boy whose mother has breast cancer has sacrificed his locks in aid of Macmillan nurses.
Jonathan Jardine, along with three fellow students from Queen Katherine School, has ‘braved the shave’ to raise funds for the cancer charity.
The selfless teen also wanted to show solidarity with mum Joanne Jardine, who lost her own hair after undergoing three bouts of chemotherapy.
Between them Jonathan, Elliott Ett, Patrick Savage and Luke Rawley, all aged 13, have raised around £1,500 to help Macmillan give specialised support to those with cancer and their families.
“After this happened to my mum I wanted to do some fundraising,” said Jonathan, who has also held a cake stall at Queen Katherine School with some of his friends.
“I’m a bit nervous about getting it done – I wasn’t going to but a lot of people have encouraged me.”
Mum Joanne said she was ‘very proud’ when her son and his friends announced their plan to shave their heads in the name of charity.
“It was all their idea and it’s a really great thing for them to do,” she said.
