A WOMAN has plunged to her death from a beauty spot in the Eden Valley.
The 60-year-old woman fell from a narrow path leading to the viaduct at Smardale Gill, near Kirkby Stephen.
Kirkby Stephen Mountain Rescue Team was called out at 4.45pm by the North West Ambulance Service.
The team treated the casualty before the arrival of two Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAA) helicopters and a Royal Navy Sea King helicopter.
MORE TOP STORIES: But despite the best efforts of the GNAA paramedics and doctor the woman did not survive.
A mountain rescue team spokesperson said: "Our thoughts are with her friends and family."
The three-hour operation on Thursday (July 30) involved 16 team members.
