THE second Tuesday in August is a red letter day for the people of Kirkby Lonsdale, when the traditional delights of Lunesdale Agricultural Show draw hundreds of people to Underley Park.

The event attracts visitors, exhibitors and trade stands from near and far.

Among this year's highlights will be a parade of hounds from the Vale of Lune Hunt at 2pm, described as a spectacle not to be missed, with an opportunity to get close to the dogs.

The show is also to feature restored vintage vehicles and bygone agricultural machinery, with owners parading their finery at 3.15pm.

Lunesdale Show is well known for its sheep, with 17 different breeds judged, and there will also be Holstein and Jersey cows and beef cattle; agricultural horses, show jumping and the popular ridden fancy dress competition; an attractive show of poultry, waterfowl and eggs; and a dog show.

Home baking, flowers, vegetables, needlecraft and more will fill the home industries tent, in a stunning display of local talent; and there will also be hand-made sticks and crooks, a craft marquee with handicrafts for sale, and a tempting food hall.

Look out, too, for Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling, Punch and Judy shows and a traditional storyteller.

The rugby club bar will be open and Yorkshire Dales ice cream will be on sale. Gates open at 8.30am.
