IT is time to WISE-up and submit nominations for the annual Women in Science and Engineering Awards.

The awards recognise individuals and organisations who are actively promoting science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) to girls and young women.

The event also offers the chance to hear stories of inspirational women working in STEM careers, and to take part in networking activities.

Among those shortlisted last year were Anna Shaw, laboratory analyst apprentice at the Ulverston factory of global healthcare company GlaxoSmithKline.

Anna, who won the 2014 Apprentice Award, says the WISE Awards have been paramount in showcasing women who are achieving fantastic things within the science and engineering industry.

She says: “The WISE Awards are so important for others to see how well women perform in roles that are stereotypically male dominated. If other women can’t see or relate to role models in the industry, they may never know what is possible to achieve, which is a massive shame.”
