POLICE are urging people not to leave valuables in vehicles after four thefts from cars around Pooley Bridge and Ullswater on Saturday.

In the second incident, between 11.30am and 3.30pm at Eusemere car park, Pooley Bridge, the rear window of a Vauxhall Meriva was smashed and cash, bank cards, a phone and reading glasses taken.

At Brothers Water car park, between 2.30pm and 4.30pm a grey Volvo had its rear passenger window smashed and a handbag stolen, with contents including a driving licence and cash.

Crime Prevention Officer Claire Stevens said: “People are leaving handbags and valuables in full view which makes it easier for these criminals.

“You need to remove all valuables from your vehicle – do not put them in the glove box or in the boot as the offenders may be watching, hence the rear windscreens being smashed.

“Please be extra vigilant and see what other vehicles are in the car park you are in, and if there are any suspicious persons call Cumbria Police on 101.

“If you own and run a hotel/guest house please share this message with all your residents when leaving or checking out for the day.”
