POLICE are appealing for information after a cyclist collapsed and died on a path next to the River Lune.
The 57-year-old man, from Lancaster, had been cycling next to the river from the direction of Carlisle Railway Bridge towards Lancaster City Centre at around 12.10pm on Thursday, August 20.
It is believed he lost control of his bike and fell around four feet onto a grass embankment next to the river.
He then managed to get up and lift the bike back onto the cycle path but he then collapsed.
An air ambulance crew attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Roads Policing Sergeant Tracey Ward said: “This was an extremely tragic incident where a man has sadly died.
“We need anyone who may have witnessed the cyclist as he fell or shortly afterwards to get in contact with us.”
