Research by Cumbria Tourism shows that 86% of visitors are influenced by environmental initiatives when making their holiday choice. Nurture Lakeland deliver campaigns which help tourism businesses, visitors and local communities to understand and tackle some of the negative local impacts of tourism and other threats to the special nature of the Lake District and Cumbria.

The Nurture Lakeland website has lots of free information to help businesses to adopt green initiatives and ideas that will help improve the environment and may help reduce costs, such as fuel bills. Businesses can also join as members with their membership fees and funds they raise going towards local projects. For example, the holiday let company, Heart of the Lakes, have held numerous different fundraising events to help towards the Fix the Fells project.

By greening a businesses and practising responsible tourism, business owners will be better placed to meet the growing expectations of people coming to holiday in Cumbria. Through Nurture Lakeland businesses can also get accredited with Cumbria Business Environment Network (CBEN) and the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS).
