THERE were more than 500 exhibits at the 73rd annual Greenodd and District Horticultural Society Show - once again demonstrating its popularity amongst growers.

Cookery, handicrafts and well over 100 children’s entries gave a varied and interesting display against which the other exhibits showed themselves to perfection.

There was a good selection of fresh and mouth watering vegetables. Bill Southward, of Egremont, showed a plate of six French Beans that was awarded best vegetable exhibit and the Blue Ribbon for best horticultural exhibit in show.

Society chairman, Fred Barnes of Ulverston, won best in roses, best cut flowers and runner up to best in show with a bowl of seven “Wainwright” roses.
