CLOSE neighbours in Ingleton are celebrating after picking up a prize for the best garden in the annual Yorkshire Housing awards.

Christine Hunt and Jean Lewis, who both live in Burnmoor Crescent, will have to share the title after being put forward by neighbour, Olive Dixon.

“Their gardens are so beautiful and so colourful, and they help anyone with their gardens," said Mrs Dixon.

"I really had to nominate them both and I'm so glad they have both won the award – they deserve it.”

Both ladies picked up a £40 shopping voucher and a trophy sponsored by Yorkshire Housing contractors.

Yorkshire Housing's community development advisor, Helen Cowton, said there had been some fantastic nominations for this year's awards and for the first time, there had been a tie.

She added: “The customer judging panel had a tough job to decide on the winners, due to their high standards and beautiful gardens. I have been managing the awards for ten years, since I started working with Yorkshire Housing, and every year the nominations are outstanding.
