Kendal is referred to as 'Gateway to the Lakes'.

Visitors using the A65 approach the town by passing through two roundabouts. The one near Asda and B&Q store is not very well maintained with overgrown bushes that obscure vehicles turning and making it difficult for those waiting for clearance before proceeding. This is in sharp contrast to the excellent treatment of the second roundabout.

Perhaps to 'complement' the appearance of the Asda roundabout, the authorities, in their wisdom, have decided to leave most of the adjacent open areas to revert to a wild life meadow by only cutting around their perimeters with a machine specially brought to the site for this purpose.

The result is now a thorough mess, resembling one of the 'bombed sites' older residents remember from WW2. The bees and butterflies are hardly likely to survive with the amount of diesel fumes generated in this area!

In addition, at one place, the branches from a tree that lost a lot of it branches in bad weather have been left in an unsightly pile. The plethora of signs, advertising local events, some of which that have to be on legs to be above the foliage, complete the picture.

Have the town and district councillors any pride left for the appearance of their and our town?
