A SOUTH Lakes market town was lit up as thousands turned out to watch the annual lantern procession.
Ulverston Lantern Festival saw hundreds snake through the streets with their elaborate designs based around this year's theme - out of the toy box.
The river of light saw families, adults and children alike make their way through the town centre before heading for Ford Park for a grand finale of circus entertainment, music and fireworks.
Among the parade participants were Charlie and Mike Hogan, of Barrow, who had put their heads together to create a lantern of Olaf, the snowman from Disney hit frozen.
Charlie, who had matching Frozen make up, said: "It took me two days to make and I really threw myself into it.
"We moved here three years ago and came to the procession the first time as members of the public and thought we'd try it.
"It's like being a celebrity being a part of it!"
Staff and pupils from Ulverston's Church Walk Primary School impressed observers with their life-sized horse replica of the school 'mascot' Dobbin.
Headteacher Susan Davies said the lantern was a combined effort from all of the school's classes.
And leading one leg of the procession was Paul Burton and his team who had created a giant jack in the box which took a week to make.
The town also played host to the Medieval Charter Market earlier today.
