SIX wounded servicemen who are walking from Scotland to Buckingham Palace will be cheered on by two South Lakes communities when they pass through the area tomorrow and Wednesday.

The team, which includes two Americans, are walking 1,000 miles over 10 weeks as part of the Walking With The Wounded's ongoing campaign to raise awareness of servicement who have been wounded in conflicts.

They will call at Sedbergh tomorrow (Tuesday) before going on to Kirkby Lonsale and then to Lancaster.

Kirkby Lonsdale Town Council chairman Allan Muirhead said: "We have two local servicemen who are still recovering from war wounds received in Afghanistan, so it’s appropriate that we welcome their colleagues as they tackle this challenging walk.

"Town council members will welcome them at Market Square (at around 8.45am) where it is hoped there will be large crowds and live music to show the town’s encouragement and support for this venture.

The core team of four British wounded veterans and two US wounded have been joined by other wounded personnel in different parts of the country.

The walk started on August 22 in Scotland and will finish at Buckingham Palace in London on November 1.
