THE South Lakeland community has continued to show its support for a group of young carers whose deserved mini-break was spoiled.

Donations for the teenagers have this week reached almost £5,000 thanks to generous individuals - with nearly £600 raised by a Great North Runner.

Last week the Gazette reported £3,898 had been donated to the youngsters which would cover the cost of replacing everything stolen from a mini-bus while they were enjoying a holiday in Manchester.

In the past week, people have rallied round to raise another £954.

Jackson Stubbs, of Kendal, was inspired to complete the Great North Run in aid of the carers after spotting the story in the Gazette.

"I used to work for the Sunderland equivalent of South Lakeland Carers so hit really hit home," said Mr Stubbs, who works for Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust."

The 10 carers, who dedicate their lives to looking after sick family members, had their packed suitcases snatched.
