CHRISTIAN Aid has produced a video for The Church of England in Lancashire to coincide with the Bishop’s annual Harvest Appeal.

The appeal by the Rt Rev. Julian Henderson, Bishop of Blackburn, is supporting people in Columbia and Malawi. Last year’s appeal raised £23,000.

The video, available on the Diocesan YouTube channel, shows the plight of some of those the appeal is intended to help, including a five-year-old girl named Marcia. It is seen as an important tool to promote the appeal and has already been seen in many churches around the diocese.

Appeal organiser Arton Medd said: “This year’s appeal is for a Christian Aid partner Corambiente in Colombia, where malnutrition affects 60 per cent of the children.

“We are also supporting Tearfund partner Eagles in Malawi where unpredictable weather is reducing food production. Eagles is developing conservation agriculture which will help farmers to increase yields.”

Bishop Julian says: "The Gospel story of the Good Samaritan teaches us that every person in need is our neighbour. As followers of Jesus, we are called to care for others, wherever they may live or culture they are from.”

"I thank Christian Aid for working with us to produce this video to highlight the plight of people who will benefit from my Harvest Appeal this year.

“I am asking everyone in our diocese – both in our schools and in our parishes – to continue to support my Appeal this Harvest Season and to watch and share the video.

The video can be seen on the Diocesan YouTube channel. Visit www.blackburn.anglican.org and search ‘harvest appeal’ to find out how you can get involved.
