SCAMMERS are targeting the residents of South Cumbria, according to police.
Officers have received a spate of calls this week relating to a scam caller claiming to be a member of either the Metropolitan Police or Greater Manchester Police's Fraud Department.
The caller claims to have found the bank card of a relative and attempts to obtain personal information and bank details.
Sergeant Montgomery said: “Unfortunately there are people out there who will attempt to obtain information fraudulently. I strongly advise anyone who receives calls like this to hang up immediately.
“If you are ever unsure if a call from a bank is genuine, then hang up and say you will call them back, using a different phone, as the caller may still be linked to yours.”
