KIND-HEARTED, charitable people are helping to raise money for refugees undergoing a dangerous and arduous journey.

Members of the Catholic parish in Kendal are organising a 'Songs for Symi' evening where it is hoped as many people as possible will come together and take part in the numerous musical events and even enjoy a hot meal at the end.

Symi is a Greek island that is right on the frontline of Europe's refugee crisis, mainly due to its proximity to Turkey.

The tiny island of 2,600 people saw more than 4,000 refugees arrive in the first half of the year alone on a ragtag flotilla.

Songs for Symi will take place on Saturday, October 17 at Kendal Rugby Club at 7.30pm.
