WEDDING flowers plucked from a Lake District garden were the icing on the cake for a September bride.
Jenn Gallagher, a florist, walked down the aisle of St Peter's Church, Far Sawrey, carrying a bouquet of blooms lovingly grown by her mum, Anne Jones.
As reported in the Gazette, Anne and her husband Roger put their summer holiday plans on hold so they could keep a close eye on the sweet peas, dahlias, cosmos, chrysanthemums, carnations and asters needed for the bouquets, buttonholes and floral decorations.
They also carefully tended the cottage-garden roses inherited from Roger's late mother, and aromatic herbs such as marjoram, lavender and rosemary.
Jenn flew home from Perth, Australia, to marry her fiancé Brad Clarke and she even made her own bridal bouquet.
"I'm delighted to say that all went brilliantly to plan," said mother-of-the bride Anne.
"In the end we are delighted to have provided enough flowers for five bouquets, including the bride's; a spectacular floral installation which decorated the wedding venue (Belmount Hall, Hawkshead); all the buttonholes; the church; the dining tables at the venue; plus fresh rose petals for confetti.
