UNIVERSITY Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust’s Executive Chief Nurse, Sue Smith, has been named as one of the country’s most inspirational nursing leaders by a national publication.

She was one of 48 individuals from all aspects of the nursing profession to be featured in a prestigious list published in the Nursing Times.

Sue joined the Trust as Executive Chief Nurse in December 2013, and has a strong background in clinical nursing, patient safety. She has also led a number of innovations to understand and reduce mortality and morbidity, and runs nurse development programmes that focus on human factors, understanding behaviours and learning from incidents and complaints.

“I am absolutely honoured to have been named as one of the country’s most inspirational leaders, and I couldn’t have achieved this without the full support of the amazing teams I work with," said Sue.

“I have dedicated my career to improving clinical nursing, infection prevention, patient safety, and most of all, ensuring that patients get the best possible experience when in hospital.”

“We all go into nursing because we want to help people when they are at their most vulnerable and need some support and care, and I am as passionate about my profession today as when I started in a health care assistant role in the 1980s."
