CHILDREN at Castle Park School will be able to hone their climbing skills on a new traverse wall that has been installed in the grounds.

Headteacher Helen Richardson said the traverse wall has added a further dimension to the exercise and fitness opportunities offered to pupils within the school grounds.

It is already proving popular with the children and they are enjoying improving their skills during playtime.

Jeremy Wilson, owner and trustee of The Lakeland Climbing Foundation, said: “We were delighted to be approached by Castle Park School to help fund their new traverse wall. It is great that children should have the chance to experience many forms of activity and adventure and climbing provides a very different experience and reward to traditional team and ball sports."

The traverse wall was made possible by kind donations from Gilbert Gilkes & Gordon Ltd, Lakeland Ltd, School Angel, Friends of Castle Park School and The Lakeland Climbing Foundation, which is the charity arm of The Lakeland Climbing Centre in Kendal.
