Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday night when an entry 2,742 sheep were forward consisting of 2,036 Prime Lambs, 521 Cast Ewes and 185 Store Lambs.
Topping the sale at £100.80 was a Beltex x Lamb from Messrs Harrison, The Birches, Whinfell which was bought by Dowding’s Butchers, Appleby Topping at 225.10 p/kg was a pen of Beltex x lambs from Messrs Dodd, West View, Temple Sowerby which were purchased by Vivers Scotlamb.
An increased ringside of buyers resulted in trade being stronger than it had been so far in the week, with buyers especially looking for well fleshed lambs with these types achieving premium rates

Kirkby Stephen SSBA ‘C’ District Ram Sales – Day 3

Harrison & Hetherington, Kirkby Stephen Mart held the Third and final day of the annual Swaledale Sheep Breeders Association ‘C’ District ram sale on Friday.
Topping the day’s trading on two accessions at £30,000 was firstly from Messrs Lightfoot, Gillside Farm, Glenridding which was jointly purchased by Messrs Dixon, Garnthwaite and Messrs Marwood, Long Green. Then later in the day the £30,000 mark was achieved by Messrs Hutton, Setmabanning Farm, Threlkeld, which was bought in a three way split between Messrs Harker, Overthwaite, Messrs Harker, Grayrigg Hall and Messrs Hargreaves, Meadow Bank.
The day’s average of £1591.61 was a fantastic £185.42 up on the year.
The tow day’s sale average was £1674.04 which was plus £167.43 on the year for 732 shearlings sold.

Kirkby Stephen SSBA ‘C’ District Ram Sales – Day 2

Harrison & Hetherington held the second day of the annual Swaledale Sheep Breeders Association ‘C’ District ram sale on Thursday.
Trade started off very strong with the sale topper coming very early in the sale. At £42,000 this was consigned by Messrs Sowerby, Oakbank and was purchased by Messrs Harker, Grayrigg Hall & Messrs Hutchinson, Valley Farm.
The day’s champion was from Messrs Rukin, West Stonesdale, which was sold late in the day for £25,000.
Trade from start to finish was flying with an overall average of £1,759.22 being achieved which was up £159.01 on the year with only 11 rams failing to find a new home.

Kirkby Stephen Opening Day of the SSBA ‘C’ District Ram Sales

Harrison & Hetherington held the opening sale on behalf of the SSBA ‘C’ District Swaledale Ram sales on Wednesday when over 200 aged & Ram Lambs were on offer.
Topping the sale at £8,500 was a Ram Lamb from Messrs Marwood, Long Green, Barningham which was bought by M/s. Tully, Burncroft Farm, Eggleston.
Topping the Aged Rams at £5,200 was a 5 shear from Messrs Booth, Old Hall Farm, Feizor which was purchased by Messrs Gibson, Burneside Hall, Kendal.
Trade for both Aged and Ram Lambs was fantastic. 74 aged rams sold averaged £767.70 (+ £144.04 on the year)
76 Ram Lambs sold averaged £918.78 (+ £140.97 on the year)
