POLICE are urging motorists to drive carefully after torrential rain has left surface water on many roads in south Cumbria today (Wednesday).
Traffic is queueing on the M6 after a car skidded off the motorway and onto a grass verge near Burton-in-Kendal services, at around 9.45am.
The driver, a 20-year-old woman, was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
There are also reports of large surface water building on roads in and around the Kendal area.
Inspector Chris O’Hare, Cumbria Constabulary, said: "Many of the roads in south Cumbria have road surface water due to continuous rainfall this morning. Our advice is to drive only if necessary today as the weather could see more roads affected with increasing severity.
"If you must drive please do so with extreme care. Motorists should not drive through any flood water of which they cannot judge the depth. Also a concern is the spray coming from the roads which decreases a driver's visibility."
