Store Cattle

On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of Store Cattle, with a catalogued entry of 256 store cattle forward.

Trade showed signs of a slight improvement on the week. Stronger cattle were dearer and all heifers were good to sell. Dennis Bowman, Croft House topped both the bullock and heifer trade at £1,425 and £1,385 respectively for Limousin cattle.

OTM Cattle

On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 66 OTM Cattle.

A decent entry of 66 cast cows included and increased proportion of plain cows, meaty cows were best to sell, topping at 164.5p/kg for a Blonde D’Aquitaine cow from Messrs A & N Bennett, Hollins.  A top price of £1,339.52 went to Messrs J B Holliday & Sons, Town Head for a Limousin cow.

Prime Cattle

On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of Prime Cattle.

A mixed entry of prime cattle found anything of quality to be a decent trade. David Raine, Old Parks was top of the tree with a Limousin heifer at 221.50p/kg (£1,458) purchased by Peter Smith, Butcher of Cocklakes.

A reduced entry of prime bulls were a steady trade, selling to a top of 194.5p/kg (£1396.62) for a British Blue bull from Messrs Pearson, Manor Farm purchased by J A Jewitt, Spennymoor.
