THE Annapurna Indian Dance Company presents The Unknown Becomes Known at Beetham's Heron Theatre on Friday (November 27, 7.30pm).
The piece is a moving and visually stunning homage to the Indian servicemen of the First World War. In 1914, India - which included Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Nepal - sent more than one million personnel to support the British Empire during the war with 74,000 troops sacrificing their lives. The Unknown Becomes Known recollects one of the less well-known aspects of the war using traditional Indian dance and music.
Following on at the popular theatre venue, on Sunday, December 6 (2.30pm), will be acclaimed historical musicians Blast from the Past, who present a festive romp through 600 years of Christmas music, songs and stories.
Beginning in the Middle Ages and ending in the 20th century, A Brief History of Christmas is a whistle-stop tour of the origins of midwinter festivities, featuring long-forgotten songs and tales as well as some familiar and well-loved carols.
