A WOMAN has admitted stabbing a police officer in the hand as he was dealing with a violent incident at her Kendal home.

Christina Nisbet, 25, appeared at Carlisle Crown Court and entered guilty pleas to two offences.

She admitted assaulting PC Gary Finch, causing him actual bodily harm, and also an affray. Both charges arose out of the same incident on March 10.

Nisbet, of Anchorite Road, Kendal, was said to have taken hold of a knife which she thrust towards a female police officer. As PC Finch intervened, he was stabbed in his right hand causing a two inch open wound.

Nisbet was said to have no recollection of the incident, which occurred after she had consumed a large quantity of alcohol.

Judge Barbara Forrester adjourned the case having agreed to a request by Duncan Nightingale, defending, that a background report should be prepared on Nisbet.

"That report, I am hopeful, will give some indication of the most appropriate sentence in this case," Mr. Nightingale told the court.

Nisbet, who has no previous convictions, is due to be sentenced at the crown court on January 6.

In the meantime she was remanded on unconditional bail.
