PUPILS at a top-rated prep school shone when they were given a task involving illuminated Lego creations.

All children from Reception to Year 6 at Casterton, Sedbergh Preparatory School, lit up the sports hall when the Electro City Workshop visited for the fourth year running.

The youngsters took-in some STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) learning when they were given free reign to use the Lego to build whatever they wanted to, incorporating elements of construction, architecture and town planning.

They then lit-up their creations using parallel circuits, which are on the physics curriculum.

Faye Barker, a science teacher at the school, said: "This is always one of the highlights of the year for pupils – learning through play at any age brings such reward."

James, 5, said: "There was Lego everywhere and I built a house and garden – and the house had lights inside. We could build tall buildings, bridges, tunnels, roads, railways and we had bulbs, batteries, wires and switches.

"We could make anything we could imagine! I play with Lego a lot at home and told my mum and dad how the lights work by clipping the wires to the battery."
