An independent panel has recommended a one per cent maximum increase in the basic allowance paid to district councillors.
In its annual report, the Independent Remuneration Panel (IRP) of South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) recommends an increase up to a maximum of one per cent on the basic allowance for 2016/2017, to bring it up to £3,958 a year.

If the report is accepted by a meeting of SLDC’s Full Council on December 17 the new allowances would take effect from 1 April 2016.
