PEOPLE in Kirkby Lonsdale have been pulling together to get things back to normal following Storm Desmond.

A working party of about 15 volunteers spent Saturday and Sunday clearing up debris left by floodwater on the banks of the River Lune.

Town, district and local councillor Nick Cotton organised the working party and said it was important for people’s morale and the local economy.

Volunteers focused their efforts on making sure people could use the riverside path and picnic area at Mill Ayre.

“I think everybody wants to do what they can and the riverside path is very important to the people of Kirkby Lonsdale and getting that back to normal means a lot,” said Cllr Cotton.

“The riverside path took a hell of a battering from the storm, it must have been up at least 20 feet.”

He said more work parties would be organised in the future to continue the work.
