Simply Red set to play gig at Cartmel Racecourse

Thirty years after introducing a generation to the joys of soul music through their irresistible rendition of the Valentine Brothers’ classic Money’s Too Tight To Mention, Simply Red are back with a World Tour and a brand new album ‘Big Love.’

Next spring, the band, who have sold more than 50 million albums over a 25-year career, will be performing after the races at Cartmel Racecourse on May 28 2016 in the first major post-racing concert ever to be staged at the Cumbrian track.

Tickets go on sale at 9am tomorrow (Friday).

The band are acclaimed worldwide for hits including For Your Babies, Stars, If You Don’t Know Me By Now, Holding Back the Years and Fairground.

The announcement comes as it is revealed that music promoters Cuffe and Taylor have formed a partnership with Cartmel Racecourse to produce a weekend of live music.

In addition to Simply Red another concert will be announced soon for the Sunday.

Cuffe and Taylor's director Peter Taylor said he is delighted to be able to bring them to Cartmel.

He said: “We have long been impressed by the popularity of Cartmel Racecourse and it is with absolute pleasure that we are now in a position to announce that we are working with them.

“This is very exciting for everyone involved. We are looking forward to working with the racecourse team and a wide range of Cumbrian suppliers to put together a professional and popular event which will include music from Simply Red next May.”

Jonathan Garratt, managing director of Cartmel Racecourse said: "We are currently working, with our new partners Cuffe & Taylor, to deliver the event and look forward to announcing more details in the near future."

Tickets are priced from £32.50 for adults and include full entry to the races on Saturday May 28.

Tickets for 13-17-year-olds are £15 and children aged 12 and under go free.
