POLICE have praised Festive Friday revellers throughout Cumbria for behaving responsibly on what is potentially a busy night for disorder incidents.

County-wide, 27 people were arrested for public order offences - a number described by a force spokesman as 'only a slight increase on a normal weekend'.

He said extra officers had been deployed in case of problems but the evening went well with people 'enjoying themselves responsibly'.

The spokesman said extra officers would continue to be deployed tonight (Saturday) and over the remainder of the festive period and he urged members of the public not to get involved in any incidents of disorder they might witness.
