PLANS to extend the ice creamery and replace the play barn at a Kendal farm's ice cream parlour have won the approval of South Lakeland District Council.

Natland Mill Beck Farm is a working family farm that uses fresh milk to make up to 65 different flavours of award-winning ice cream.

The plans involve demolishing two portal-frame buildings and putting up a new single-storey structure behind the ice cream parlour and tearoom, at Natland Mill Beck Lane, where specialities include knickerbocker glory sundaes.

Plans submitted earlier this year were rejected on the grounds of 'overdevelopment', but planners decided the latest proposals would enhance a local business without harming neighbours or the setting of nearby listed buildings.
