A TEENAGER has been banned from driving for running off after crashing his mother's car.

Jordan Lee Rogers, Boston Close, Darlington, was disqualified from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay out more than £1,000 after pleading guilty to five motoring offences.

Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court on Wednesday (December 30) heard the 19-year-old took his mother's car without permission at about 4am on December 6.

Alison Howey, prosecuting, said he failed to give way at a T junction and collided with a Ford Fiesta causing it to crash into a garden wall.

The defendant made off on foot but later gave police a full interview and accepted what happened.

Nick Woodhouse, mitigating, said Rogers went to pick up his girlfriend out of concern as she was unable to get a taxi.

He must carry out 100 hours of unpaid work within the next 12 months for driving without due care and attention, using a vehicle without insurance, failing to stop after an accident and being the driver involved in an accident which he failed to report.

For aggravated vehicle taking he was disqualified from driving for 12 months.

He was ordered to pay compensation of £790 for the damaged wall, £200 to the car owner and prosecution costs of £85.
