A KENDAL councillor and road safety campaigner has been pictured parking illegally outside Queen Katherine School.

Clare Feeney-Johnson, who is a governor at the school, was spotted by an eagle-eyed Gazette reader as she parked her Fiat 500 on a road sign that reads 'school keep clear'.

The district and county councillor is a supporter of the 20's Plenty campaign and recently called for members of the public to use hand-held speed guns to tackle speeding motorists.

Cllr Feeney-Johnson, whose son attends Queen Katherine School, on Appleby Road, admitted that it was her car but said she had only been parked there 'for a couple of minutes'.

"My son was going to see the doctor and he was supposed to be outside the school waiting for me to pick him up but he wasn't there so I had to go in and get him," she said. "I don't normally park there.

"I was only there for a couple of minutes and it was not at a time when young people were walking around."

When asked if the picture contradicts her stance on road safety, Cllr Feeney-Johnson said: "The issues that I deal with are brought-up by my residents and the vast majority of the time it's concerning speeding and the volume of traffic."
