RENOWNED Ulverston artist Stefan Orlowski has had a painting shortlisted for the prestigious Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize - one of the UK's most respected competitions for representational painting.

His work will be on show at the Mall Galleries in London from March 7 to 13.

The prize rewards outstanding examples of representational painting from artists across the UK. Created in 2005 by The Worshipful Company of Painter-Stainers and The Lynn Foundation.

The open competition champions the skills of draughtsmanship and figurative painting and this year’s exhibition aims to reflect the wealth of talent among both emerging and established artists.

More than 130 works are in the running for the first prize of £15,000.

Stefan studied fine art at Aberystwyth University of Wales from 2004-07 and for his masters at Wimbledon College of Art in 2011-12.

He was artist-in-residence at the Trelex residency programme Switzerland and has cemented his creative reputation in exhibitions such as Fire and Firmament and Open Up North at the Brewery arts centre in Kendal as well as shows in London galleries.

Many of the works in the Lynn Painter-Stainers prize are for sale and organisers say they will soon be available to view in an online gallery at: www.lynnpainterstainersprize.org.uk
