PLANNED closures of five of Cumbria's fire stations have been scrapped, it was announced this morning.
Cumbria County Council have been consulting on a range of proposals in the face of large cuts from central Government.
Among the most controversial was the closure of retained station at Arnside, Staveley, Frizington, Walney and Lazonby.
The Gazette launched a campaign - Save our Fire Stations - which highlighted the community concerns about the proposal.
And this morning, as the county council's cabinet met to finalise which plans will go ahead before full council later this month, it was announced the proposals have been halted.
