Peter Rogers of the Institute of advanced Motorists offered well-founded winter riding advice for motorcyclists (Letters, November 5, 'Winter tips for motorcyclists').
Perhaps advice needs to be offered to the many motorists driving around in the dark with defective lighting. With little enforcement present it's a problem that appears to be on the increase.
It's not uncommon to see vehicles with only one headlight lit, or one rear light or, as I encountered on the M6 at Farleton recently, no rear lights at all. This was an accident waiting to happen.
It only takes a moment to walk around your vehicle to check that all your lights are working before setting off on any journey.
