FARMING and other rural businesses in the Yorkshire Dales are being urged to apply for a share of £50,000 in sustainable development grants.

Communities, individuals, businesses and organisations wanting help with projects within the national park.

So far this financial year more than £90,000 has been given out by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority’s Sustainable Development Fund (SDF) and there is still some money left.

Andrea Burden, the authority’s sustainable development officer, said: “We would like to hear from any local projects that will bring economic, social and environmental benefits to the national park.

“Ideally they need to submit an application within the next week or so to be eligible for this last round of grants in the 2015/16 financial year.

“The money is there for individuals, businesses, community groups or voluntary-sector bodies who have great projects that need some financial help.

“The only condition is that the project should contribute in some way to looking after the national park’s natural beauty, wildlife or cultural heritage, or it should promote opportunities for the public to understand and enjoy those things – while at the same time providing some local economic or community benefit.”

More details about the Sustainable Development Fund can be found on the National Park Authority website at yorkshiredales.org.uk/sdf .
