ST MARY'S Church, Kirkby Lonsdale, hopes to cut down two overgrown conifers.
The trees are either side of a double grave, and one has split and fallen, according to planning documents.
The church has notified South Lakeland District Council because the trees are in Kirkby Lonsdale's conservation area.
The council has until March 15 to consider serving a tree preservation order.
