A CUMBRIA-based Center Parcs chef has flipped his way to a Guinness World Record title for the tallest stack of pancakes.

Dave Nicholls, Executive Sous Chef at Center Parcs Whinfell Forest, was a key part of the team to break the business’ family restaurant, The Pancake House.

The record, which was previously held by Netherlands-based theme park Efteling, was set on Monday, February 8 at Center Parcs Sherwood Forest, beating the previous record of 91.2cm, with a flipping fantastic 101.8cm.

Dave, along with Center Parcs’ Group Executive Chef, James Haywood, assembled the pancakes into a freestanding structure over 45 minutes, with the overall verification boiling down to the final five seconds, when the structure was required to stand unsupported.

The stack consisted of 213 pancakes, made up of 14 bags of flour, 700 eggs and 26 pints of milk. Following the announcement of the Guinness World Records title, the team set to work dismantling the stack and creating 35 smaller stacks, topped with plenty of tasty treats, which were handed out to guests visiting The Pancake House that day.

“I’m incredibly proud to say that I helped to break a Guinness World Records title,” said Dave.

“James and I have spent many hours preparing, measuring and calculating for this moment. The atmosphere was amazing and I can’t wait to take an official certificate back to Whinfell Forest”

In total, The Pancake House serves around 7,500 pancakes every week and has been part of Center Parcs since it arrived in the UK almost 30 years ago.
