THE Wainwright Society has announced the winner of its 2015 Photographic Competition.

A total of 117 entries in the Society’s 2015 Photographic Competition were judged by Derry Brabbs, the photographer who collaborated with Alfred Wainwright in the 1980s to produce seven of his ‘large format’ books.

There were two classes, an Open Class and a Themed Class with an overall Best in Show photograph.

The winner of the Open Class was Ed Hamblett with his photograph, Derwentwater.

The winner of the Themed Class (Upon reaching the summit …) and judged Best in Show was Niels Rasmussen with his photograph, The summit of Sallows

In selecting The summit of Sallows as Best in Show, Derry said: “I had the unenviable task of choosing which of the two class winners should be awarded the accolade of ‘Best in Show’.

“Both images were outstanding but in the end I had no qualms about selecting The summit of Sallows as it readily passed the ‘which picture would I never tire of looking at on my wall test’ and so my congratulations to the frostbitten photographer who braved the harsh elements to capture that stunning image.”
