PROPOSALS for a 330-home estate in Ulverston have been recommended for approval by planners.
Councillors are set to debate the application at a meeting of South Lakeland District Council’s planning committee today.
The Manchester-based WYG Group wants to build 330 homes, including 112 affordable dwellings, on land at Nook Farm on Colthouse Lane.
The original application was for 355 houses but this was reduced following negotiations.
Access roads are proposed from Mountbarrow Road and Urswick Road.
Concerns were raised about increased traffic through the existing estate and surrounding county lanes, the issue of surface drainage, adverse impacts on privacy, noise pollution and the lack of provision for a school to cater for the increased number of children.
A report has recommended that councillors delegate authority to grant the application, subject to several conditions.
These include extending the 30mph speed restrictions, and provision for a bus service to serve the development.
The site was allocated for residential development in South Lakeland District Council's Local Plan.
