A PAIR of South Lakeland residents flew the flag for Westmorland after representing England at the Al-Farsi International Kite Festival in Kuwait.

Craig Harby and Sue Kennedy, of Preston Patrick, were two of 17 kite fliers invited to the event from 10 countries, including Finland, Estonia, Germany and Singapore.

The pair, who run kite business SmileFactor10, were rubbing shoulders with the best fliers in the industry.

“It was such an incredible honour to be invited,” said Sue. “The conditions were perfect in the desert – the wind was smooth with no obstructions, which means you can fly a number of kites close together.

“We're doubly excited because the Al-Farsi team have now agreed to be part of our St. Anne’s kite festival in July, making it officially an international festival.

Keeping with the custom of giving gifts, Craig and Sue presented the organiser and each kite flyer with a tin of Romney’s Kendal Mint Cake.
