VOLUNTEERS from the Kendal Organ Donor Town team spent the day at Carus Green Golf Club to recruit donors and mark the Captain’s Drive In. 

Derek Oldfield, the Men’s Captain for 2016-17, led the day and was supported by  55 members in the Club’s first major competition since his captaincy.

Cllr Chris Hogg, Mayor of Kendal, attended to meet the players and said he was delighted to have been supported by the club.

Mayor Hogg, who recently donated a kidney to his wife, Rachael, remarked that it was vital that people registered to donate and thanked all those who had signed up.

Club President Alan Farnsworth said: "The owner and committee at Carus Green were delighted to host the organ donor team today, one of the biggest events in the year for us.  

"Our course is in excellent condition despite the poor winter and the club’s facilities are as good as ever."

Glenys Marriott, Chairman of the Organ Donor Town project, said: "Since May over 650 people have registered just in Kendal with many more across South Lakeland. 

"For the first time, over 12,000 Kendal residents are registered organ donors. 

"However, three people still die each day in the UK for the lack of a transplant and we need to improve these figures. 

"With support from groups such as Carus Green Golf Club we will meet our target of 1,000 new donors"
