A MOUNTAIN rescue team had to respond to assist two women who got caught up in a blizzard.

Keswick MRT dispatched 13 members to help a 51-year-old woman and her mother, 74, who had got lost in heavy snow at Greenup Edge near Thirlmere on Thursday, April 29.

The Team sent groups from Rosthwaite and Wythburn, at the same time requesting assistance from Cockermouth and Langdale teams to boost numbers, as well as Lake District Mountain Rescue Search Dogs.

During the four-hour rescue, the pair were located quite swiftly by a team member above Lining Crag. They were assisted by Team members down to Rosthwaite, and then driven back to Keswick.
