THE Lake District is the third most popular British 'Staycation' destination.
The national park's ranking is revealed in the annual Travelodge Holiday Index, which shows Britons will spend more than ever on their UK holidays this year – splashing out £729 on their breaks and giving the UK economy a welcome boost of almost £20 billion.

The study also reveals that 60 per cent of people who live in the the Lake District are taking a Staycation break this year, compared with the national average of 67 per cent.
The average family nationally and locally is taking a one-week holiday supported by four short breaks throughout 2016.
