KENDAL walkers will lace up their shoes for the tenth year in a row to raise money for a local cancer charity.

StarWalk will see participants running, jogging and walking either five or 10k, all to support CancerCare.

The evening event will take place on May 21, with fundraisers making their way around the town centre for the cause.

StarWalk event organiser Richard Cogger thinks that this anniversary year is going to be 'extra special'.

"We really want to celebrate the amazing efforts of our StarWalkers who have shown so much support for CancerCare throughout the past 10 years," he said. "As well as an important fundraiser for us our StarWalk event is also a lovely way for local families and some of our clients to get together to achieve something really positive."

CancerCare offer a range of free cancer support services, including counselling and a children and young people's service from their dedicated centre on Blackhall Road.

Last year the StarWalk raised more than £20,000, and the hope is that this year that number will be even bigger.

The fundraising efforts of all who get involved in the StarWalk help to make sure that the services continue to run, as the charity is 85 per cent funded by donations.

The event kicks off at 8pm at The Kendal Leisure Centre with live entertainment provided by Danny Matthews and The Bay Radio as well as a fun mass warm warm-up and huge balloon drop before the walkers set off at 9pm.

A special red carpet after party is also planned for the finish line with S Club members Jo and Bradley set to perform a medley of their greatest hits.

"Many of the StarWalkers will be using the event to improve their fitness levels after cancer treatment," Richard said. "Others will be walking or running in support of someone they know who has experienced cancer or in memory of a loved one so the atmosphere on the night is always very special."
